Do you have a backyard pool or spa? Did you know new State Government law means that private pools and spas must be registered with Council?
Swan Hill Rural City Council is calling on residents to register their backyard swimming pools and spas prior to the Victorian Governments deadline, 1 November 2020.
Swan Hill Rural City Council Director Development and Planning Heather Green said private pool and spa owners have until 1 November 2020 to register their pools with council – an extension of five months from the original 1 June deadline.
“Every four years pool and spa owners must also have a registered building surveyor or inspector certify that their safety barrier is compliant, and undertake any repairs as directed.
“The State Government has introduced these new laws to ensure safety around pools, especially for children.
“New rules will ensure fencing is checked every four years and if it is not compliant, that it must be repaired and made safe,” she said.
Ms Green said the rollout of these new laws will take time, and registering is the first step in the process.
“Once we have pools registered, we can start to advise owners about the timing and practicalities of having their pools inspected,” she added.
All local private pool and spa owners must register with Council prior to 1 November 2020.
