Pop culture will be in the spotlight this weekend at Ballarat’s third annual PopCon convention.
Hosted by City of Ballarat FReeZA committee Sonika, PopCon is a space to express appreciation for the fun parts of the media we consume, from movies and television to books and video games.
The convention will be held on Saturday 5 October at Eastwood Leisure Complex, 20 Eastwood Street, between 10am and 5pm.
PopCon will boast a variety of free workshops and demonstrations, market stalls, special guests, a cosplay competition, chill out space, gaming space and more.
Entry is by gold coin donation to the Children’s Tumour Foundation in memory of former BYOU volunteer Corey, who lost his battle with neurofibromatosis last year.
Random door prizes will be given out to some of the first 100 people to arrive.
The State Government’s FReeZA program gives young people aged 12 to 25 years the opportunity to lead the planning and staging of live music, arts and cultural events within their local communities.
Participants gain hands-on experience and training through extensive event management, mentoring and networking opportunities.
