Port Kembla trailblazer Ruby Peterlin recognised with industry Young Achievement award

The MUA Southern NSW branch congratulates Port Kembla member Ruby Peterlin on the recent recognition of her achievements with a Young Achievement Award at the Australian Shipping & Maritime Industry Awards, hosted by the Daily Cargo News.
Ruby Peterlin is a young Port Officer working on pilot boats at the busy port. Since getting her start in the maritime industry after leaving school, she has gone on to attain a Master
Her commitment and enthusiasm for maritime has gone from strength to strength, with this recent accolade coming soon after receiving the NSW TAFE Gili Award for the 2022 Supply Chain and eCommerce Student of the Year.
MUA Southern NSW Branch Secretary congratulated Ruby on blazing a trail for young people, women and First Nations people in the maritime sector.
“This is a wonderful story for our industry and an endorsement of Ruby’s hard work to date. Ruby started as a Trainee and is now permanent part of the maritime workforce at Port Kembla,” Mr Cross said.
“She has blazed a trail for women and First Nations people at the Port Authority and her story is an inspiration for young workers interested in pursuing a career in maritime,” he added.
Ms Peterlin vied for the Youth Achievement award against Captains, Chief Operating Officers and corporate managers from across Australia.
“On behalf of all of our members in the Southern NSW Branch of the MUA, congratulations on this national recognition of your hard work, Ruby!” Mr Cross said.
