A directory aimed at connecting Townsville businesses and suppliers with monsoon recovery projects has gone live on the Industry Capability Network (ICN).
Interested businesses and suppliers were invited to attend workshops and register for the ICN portal at the beginning of June.
This initiative was driven by the Local Content Sub-Committee as a member of the Economic Recovery Taskforce and Local Recovery and Resilience Group (LRRG).
Townsville LRRG Chair Cr Les Walker said working with local businesses during the rebuild would help them improve their skills for the future.
“A major aspect of Townsville’s recovery is building resilience within our local business community and ensuring the employees gain new skills that they can use in the future,” Cr Walker said.
Economic Recovery Taskforce Chair Cr Verena Coombe said the ICN Gateway is a great way to support local businesses following the unprecedented monsoon.
“The ICN Gateway is an excellent resource for local businesses to secure work following the unprecedented monsoon earlier this year,” Cr Coombe said.
“Our local businesses and suppliers should be given the best opportunity to work on recovery projects across the city and play a crucial role in building for our future.”
The Townsville Flood Disaster Reconstruction Local Supplier Directory currently lists all local businesses that registered their interest or had an existing ICN profile and fit the needs of rebuild projects.

The Townsville Local Content Sub-Committee Chair and Regional Development Australia CEO Glenys Schuntner said members have worked collaboratively to develop a solution to better connect local businesses with reconstruction needs and opportunities.
“Being online through the ICN Gateway will enable insurers and panel providers and locals to connect with suppliers of both products and services over the long re-build period,” Ms Schunter said.
“There is also the longer-term benefit of being listed for future projects in the region that can lead to other work as well.”
Property Council of Australia, Master Builders Queensland, Housing Industry Association, Urban Development Institute of Australia, Townsville Chamber of Commerce, Townsville Enterprise and Regional Development Australia are the core members of the Townsville Local Content Sub-Committee that have driven this initiative with the support of the ICN team.
All local businesses and suppliers are encouraged to register for the directory – which will stay live and connect them with other projects once the recovery is finished.
