Positive ageing forum in Ararat next week

Older residents who want to stay living in their own home – and the people who care for them – are being invited to a positive ageing forum in Ararat next week.

Ageing Well in Ararat on Friday 15 November will cover an array of subjects including how to navigate the My Aged Care system, the assessment process and legal advice about power of attorney.

Ararat Rural City Council has partnered with East Grampians Health Service, Grampians Community Health and Villa Maria Catholic ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s to offer the forum for free.

Council CEO Dr Tim Harrison said the forum is a great opportunity for older residents and the people who care for them to learn more about the services on offer to help them stay in their own home for longer.

“We know a lot of our older residents want to continue living independently and there are a lot of services on offer that can help them do this,” he said.

“Asking for help certainly doesn’t mean losing control over your decision making. In fact, getting a little help with daily activities can help you retain your self-sufficiency and provide you with the ability to stay living at home longer rather than move into an aged care facility.

“A lot of older residents who have sought support say they wished they had done it sooner, so it’s really worth investigating what you can access.”

The Ageing Well in Ararat forum will be held at the NEST at East Grampians Health Service, Girdlestone Street, Ararat, on Friday 15 November from 10am to 11.30am. The forum is free with morning tea but bookings are recommended.

Please phone East Grampians Health Service on 5352 9327 to secure a spot.
