Potter must step aside as Police Minister after defending Facebook posts amplifying racist views – 3rd March ’24

Questions of integrity as Police Minister

“Potter himself has said that there is no place for racism in the police department. If he really believes this, he would not be defending these posts. If he still holds ANY of the views expressed in these posts, he must now follow his own advice and step aside.”

“The community can’t have faith in Brent Potter claiming to address racism in our police force if he continues to defend these posts. We deserve a police minister with integrity.”

Questions of integrity and leadership for Lawler & the broader Labor Party:

“Our Chief Minister’s attempts to dismiss these posts is deeply concerning and calls into question her ‘zero-tolerance’ approach to racism.

We’re talking about posts that share Nazi content, call for the arbitrary arrest of Jewish people, and minimise black deaths in custody.

This is absolutely appalling and a blight on the Labor Government if Lawler does not act. Potter must step aside as police minister.”

“Potter was posting this type of content in 2016, just a few years before he was advising the police minister. The views expressed in these posts have no place in our society, and certainly no place in parliament.”

“This sort of extremism and hate speech is not reflective of the views of the people of Fannie Bay. People in Fannie Bay deserve a representative who will fight against racism, not amplify racist voices”.

The multicultural community of Darwin deserves better

“Potter has dismissed these posts as satirical, but there’s nothing funny about racism. There is no room for racism of any kind in our communities, and certainly not in our seats of power.”

“Potter has amplified racist slurs, hate speech and extremist rhetoric against a whole swathe of minority groups in our community. Darwin is one of the most multicultural cities in Australia and desperately needs representatives who see the value of diversity in our community.”
