City of Darwin’s pre-cyclone collection convoy will head to Zone 2 on Monday 18 September.
Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis asked residents in Zone 2 to use the weekend to finish their pre-cyclone clean-up and put their unwanted items out on the verge this Sunday 17 September.
“We’ve had a huge response across the northern suburbs and have already collected around 247 tonnes of household waste,” Mr Vatskalis said.
“We expect to at least double this over the final period of the collection, making Darwin as safe as possible as we head into the cyclone season,” he said.
Zone 2 includes the suburbs of Bayview, Coconut Grove, Cullen Bay, Darwin City, Eaton, Fannie Bay, Larrakeyah, Ludmilla, Millner, Nightcliff, Rapid Creek, Parap, Stuart Park, The Gardens, The Narrows, Woolner, Winnellie and Berrimah.
Zone 2 collections will run from 18-29 September and residents should put out their items this Sunday 17 September to ensure they can be collected during this time.
City of Darwin will not collect dangerous items including liquids, concrete, asbestos, glass, car parts and gas bottles.
The clean-up is limited to 2 cubic metres per household and items longer than 2m cannot be collected.
Seniors and residents with mobility limitations can request assistance to remove items from their property.
