The Australian Defence Force (ADF) provided a spectacular curtain-raiser for Queensland’s largest arts and cultural event, Brisbane Festival’s Riverfire, on September 3.
The ADF built excitement in the lead-up to the evening fireworks with flypasts and flying displays as the Army and Air Force showcased their aviation capabilities.
Helicopters from the Army Aviation Training Centre at Oakey demonstrated their flying prowess and manoeuvrability by conducting a low-level flying display.
Spectators also saw a demonstration of the skill and expertise of Air Force’s aviators with an awe-inspiring fast jet display over the Brisbane River in the CBD.
At Southbank, the ADF had ground displays by the Navy, Army and Air Force.
The Navy Band Queensland and Air Force Band entertained audiences in the lead-up to Riverfire, while HMAS Moreton personnel showcased the Navy’s rigid-hulled inflatable boat.
Medical personnel from RAAF Base Amberley were available to discuss their roles, and Air Force’s No. 2 Security Force Squadron delighted South Bank visitors by bringing a Belgian Malinois military dog involved in Air Force’s breeding program.
Defence Force Recruiting and reservists from Army’s Royal Queensland Regiment were also on hand with merchandise and information about career opportunities in Defence.
