Preferred Tenderer Announced For New Devonport Stadium

Tasmanian Government

Tasmanian firm Fairbrother has been announced as the preferred tenderer for the new jointly funded $60 million Devonport multi-purpose Sports Precinct.

The Tasmanian Government is investing $25 million towards the new Sports Complex which enabled the project to proceed.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff said redevelopment would ensure that the North West Coast has access to state-of-the-art sporting facilities for seven different codes right on their doorstep.

“We’ve seen what can be achieved through precincts – such as the Devonport City Living – and this next project will set up our future generations of North West Tasmanians for success.

“As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we are partnering with the Devonport City Council to deliver new, fit-for-purpose and expanded indoor court infrastructure for Devonport and the greater region.

“The facilities will include significant upgrades to the Devonport Oval, a new four-court community-use facility plus the two court/show court and events centre, outdoor netball and basketball courts, and indoor cricket and high-performance training facilities.

“Our investment will provide enhanced opportunities for community participation in sport, which supports the Government’s aim of having more Tasmanians engaged in sport and active recreation.

“This project will also enable Devonport to host high-level sporting carnivals, tournaments and other major events.

“The Devonport precinct will be a game-changer for participants and the broader community on the North West Coast, and I look forward to seeing construction of this exciting development get underway.”

Premier Rockliff acknowledged the Australian Government for its $25 million commitment to the project, and thanked Devonport Council who have worked closely with the community and local sporting clubs to develop a shared vision.
