A pregnant woman has died following a crash in the state’s north overnight.
Just before 10.30pm (Sunday 8 March 2020), emergency services were called to Warialda Road, Inverell, after reports a Holden Commodore had crashed into a pole after colliding with a Mazda Bravo.
Officers from New England Police District attended, along with NSW Ambulance paramedics.
The Holden driver, a 23-year-old woman, and passenger, a 20-year-old woman, were seriously injured and treated by paramedics.
The passenger, who was 32 weeks pregnant, was transported to Inverell Airport; however, despite the efforts of paramedics, the woman and baby died prior to being airlifted.
The driver was airlifted to Tamworth Hospital in a stable condition.
The Mazda driver, a 19-year-old man, and a female passenger suffered minor injuries. The driver was taken to Inverell Hospital and underwent mandatory testing.
A crime scene was established and officers from the Crash Investigation Unit have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
