Premier Jeremy Rockliff has broken his key promise to provide assistance to Tasmanians on their high power bills, admitting today it will not be delivered in winter.
After promising Tasmanians a winter energy efficiency loan scheme, the Premier is instead responsible for a massive fail.
On 17 June, the Premier said:
“The Tasmanian Government is taking immediate action to assist Tasmanians through a new Winter Energy Assistance Package” because he understood “it is going to be a difficult winter for many.”
The Premier and his government simply did not do enough work to find a delivery partner for this critical program, failing yet again to get the basics right.
This is a betrayal of all Tasmanian families as they come under increasing cost of living pressures, particularly with power bills going up by 12 per cent.
The last thing they need is a Premier who announces support, but does not deliver on promises that are important to family budgets.
The Premier has already broken his promise to de-link from the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Electricity Market and now he has broken his promise from only two months ago to deliver much-needed support to households.
