A prescribed ecological burn will be conducted at Pialligo today, and another in Kambah tomorrow (Friday 25 August), subject to suitable weather and fuel moisture conditions.
The prescribed ecological burn at Pialligo Avenue is being conducted to decrease weeds and encourage native regrowth which will be managed through grazing.
The prescribed ecological burn at Kambah (on the corner of McTaggart Crescent and Desailly Crescent) is to reduce biomass to protect the native plants in the area.

Experienced ACT Parks and Conservation fire managers will conduct and oversee the burning operations. Every effort is made to conduct burns in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke, but temporary smoke cover is possible and may be visible across parts of Canberra.
A buffer zone will be created around the perimeter of each of the prescribed ecological burns to manage it to its conclusion.
Some minor smoke and glowing embers may be seen at this site, which is normal for these types of operations. The public are asked not to call emergency triple-zero unless they see any unattended fire.
Prescribed burns are an important part of the ACT’s annual Bushfire Operations Plan to reduce the risk of bushfires and help keep Canberrans safe.
