A new and improved community centre will provide a hub for local business and community groups in Preston Beach.
Murray-Wellington MLA Robyn Clarke officially opened the new Preston Beach Community Centre today on behalf of Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan.
The McGowan Government invested $275,000 into the facility with a further $522,453 invested by project partners Lotterywest, the Federal Government’s Building Better Regions, Shire of Waroona and Alcoa.
Preston Beach currently has about 250 permanent residents, increasing to as many as 2,000 day visitors during the summer months.
The project has provided the Preston Beach community with a new facility with expanded floor space and additional toilets, kitchen facilities and office space.
The new centre will provide a venue for meetings and events, office space for community members and visiting services, as well as functioning as a critical evacuation centre during fire emergencies.
As stated by Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:
“Communities need innovative spaces that are able to meet a range of needs and our investment has provided that facility for Preston Beach.
“The new Preston Beach Community Centre looks fantastic and is a testament to the great work of everyone who have been involved in the project.”
As stated by Murray-Wellington MLA Robyn Clarke:
“This is a fantastic day for our Preston Beach community: the McGowan Government is delivering on improved community services and amenity here in Murray-Wellington.
“The dedication of everyone involved has been wonderful to see, and the community and Shire of Waroona staff should be proud of what they have accomplished.
“This is a centre that will service the great community of Preston Beach for many years to come, providing a meeting place where everyone is welcome in this vibrant and exciting space.”
