The City of Whittlesea’s commitment to making young LGBTIQA* (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer, asexual) people feel safe and included has been affirmed, with its Youth Services team gaining Rainbow Tick accreditation until April 2024.
The team is one of the first local government youth services with Rainbow Tick accreditation – a proud achievement which demonstrates Council’s commitment to creating socially cohesive communities, Administrator Peita Duncan said.
“We want our young people, no matter their sexual orientation or gender, to feel seen, supported and included, and the Rainbow Tick accreditation is another example of our efforts in supporting and celebrating diversity in the City of Whittlesea,” Ms Duncan said.
“Rainbow Tick accreditation affirms our pledge to young people and the community that they have a right to access Council services which are safe and welcoming to all.”
The Rainbow Tick is designed to support organisations to improve the quality of services they provide to lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and gender diverse, intersex, queer and asexual service users, staff and volunteers.
Rainbow Tick accreditation helps organisations show that they are safe, inclusive and affirming services and employers for the LGBTIQA* community.
The Rainbow Tick standards, owned and developed by Rainbow Health Victoria, are designed to build lasting LGBTIQA* inclusion. Accreditation is provided by an independent assessor, Quality Innovation Performance.
