Privacy Awareness Week 2022

Kiama Municipal Council is a proud champion of Privacy Awareness Week 2022, an international campaign that highlights the importance of privacy and raises awareness for public sector agencies about how to protect the personal information of the people we serve.

Privacy Awareness Week NSW takes place from 2-8 May 2022 and this year’s theme is Privacy: The foundation of trust – we all have a role to play.

All NSW citizens have a right to have their personal information protected and Council staff play a key role in safeguarding the personal information of the citizens we serve.

Good privacy practice by NSW government agencies creates trust in digital service delivery, and how we collect and what we do with people’s personal information is critical to creating a foundation of trust between citizens and government agencies.

Some privacy tips to consider while at work this Privacy Awareness Week:

  • Always use a different password and PIN for different accounts and take care when using public computers to access personal information.
  • Disable auto-connect to public Wi-Fi and never connect to public Wi-Fi on your work account. Use a VPN, incognito mode and/or ad blocking browser extensions, and clear out your cookie caches and browsing history to prevent your data and activity being collected.
  • Get permission before you share photos or videos of someone, and don’t share posts that contain personal information. Never exchange sensitive information over email.
  • Never use a work email address on a personal social media account. Use your own email address or create a separate one.
