Proceeds of crime recovered, Waikato

As stated by Detective Senior Sergeant Keith Kay of the Asset Recovery Unit

A Waikato Mongrel Mob member has had $37,180 cash forfeited as part of Police’s Operation Typhoon which targeted the criminal activities of gangs within the Waikato from July to September 2020.

On December 7, the Hamilton High Court granted forfeiture of $37,180 under the Criminal Proceeds (Recovery) Act 2009 – this being cash derived from the sale of cannabis.

The Waikato/Bay of Plenty Asset Recovery Unit continues to focus on disrupting gang and organised criminal activity that harms the community.

This is part of ongoing work by the Asset Recovery Unit to hold to account anyone who wishes to profit from crime and cause harm and distress to our communities through the sale of drugs or the theft of property.

Police are seeking help from the community to identify illicit proceeds of crime. If anyone has information which could assist Police, they are encouraged to report that information in confidence either to their local Police station or via 105.

Information can also be shared anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
