Michael Ferguson,Minister for State Growth
Tasmanian businesses are facing extremely difficult and unprecedented circumstances, and we are doing everything we can to help them get through the challenges posed by COVID-19.
Business Tasmania has had more than 1,500 online registrations and more than 1,800 phone call registrations during the period.
Over 7,500 applications have been submitted for Small Business Emergency Support Grants of $2,500, with more than 6,800 approved. More than 6,500 grant payments have been made, totalling $16.4 million.
Our Business Continuity Program, with grants of up to $750, has had over 1,680 applications, with 484 approved and 282 payments made.
State Growth has already received over 100 applications through our Business Support Loan Scheme, which are currently being processed. The first loans are expected to be approved in the near future, with funds anticipated to flow shortly thereafter.
These grants and loans are part of the Tasmanian Government’s Social and Economic Support Package, which, combined with our initial Support and Stimulus Package, totals nearly $1 billion.
We want to support Tasmanian businesses through these dark times so they are in a better position to be with us through the recovery.
Together we will beat this insidious virus and our Fortress Tasmania approach gives our state the best opportunity to bounce back sooner and stronger.
