Elecnor Australia (formerly SecureEnergy) has been contracted by Transgrid to deliver part of EnergyConnect with the construction of 700km of new power lines from the SA border to the regional energy hub of Wagga Wagga The project will connect the electrical grids of New South Wales, South Australia, and Victoria, improving reliability of our nation’s energy supply.
Construction activities are progressing on the Western section of EnergyConnect including the extension of the Buronga substation on Arumpo Road near Transgrid’s existing substation. Once completed, it will be one of the world’s largest and most complex substations.
These works will occur at the same time as foundation, tower assembly, and erection activities on the overhead transmission lines (OHTL) across multiple sites between the South Australian border and Buronga, NSW and between Buronga and Red Cliffs, Victoria.
To carry out this work safely and minimise disruption to the community, works are planned outside approved construction hours from December 2023 to 1 June 2024. The approved hours of construction are:
- 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday
- 8am to 1pm Saturdays
- At no time on Sundays and NSW Public Holidays
