Lithgow City Council has opened a new two-lane concrete bridge, crossing Coco Creek on Glen Davis Road, to all traffic.
Coco Creek bridge is the third and last bridge on Glen Davis Road to be replaced as part of a program to increase safety and fire resistance of the road’s creek crossings. Bridges at the Airly and Crown Creek crossings were completed during the second half of 2022.
“The Council received funding through the NSW Government’s Fixing Country Bridges Program to undertake the replacement of these bridges”, said Lithgow City Council’s Mayor, Councillor Maree Statham. “The widened design will improve safety, while the reinforced concrete construction will dramatically reduce maintenance costs in the years ahead”.
“The new structures also include footpaths which give the many birdwatchers that visit the valley a safe place to observe the region’s unique bird life.” continued Mayor Statham. “Timber bridges in Rydal and along Red Hill Road are also scheduled for replacement in the next financial year.”
The Council acknowledged the patience of residents while these bridge works have been carried out over the past year and thanked the NSW Government for their commitment to replacing timber bridges across NSW.
