Property from Sydney school found during vehicle stop, NSW

A man has been charged with a string of traffic, property and fraud offences following a vehicle stop in the state’s south yesterday.

About 2.30pm (Thursday 26 March 2020), officers from Traffic and Highway Patrol stopped a Holden Commodore southbound on the Hume Highway at Berrima, after it was allegedly detected exceeding the speed limit by more than 50km/h.

Following a search of the man’s vehicle, police allegedly located electronic equipment including iPads, a laptop, keyboard, headphones and computers – believed to be stolen from a school in Alexandria the previous day (Wednesday 25 March 2020).

Further inquiries made by investigators from The Hume Police District revealed the man’s vehicle had allegedly been fraudulently purchased in Canberra on Monday (23 March 2020) and the man also allegedly failed to pay for accommodation in Bowral between 17-20 January 2020.

The 28-year-old driver was arrested and taken to Southern Highlands Police Station, where he was charged with exceed speed (over 45km/h), drive whilst disqualified, receive stolen property, possess property stolen outside NSW and fraud.

The man was refused bail and is due to appear before Campbelltown Local Court today (Friday 27 March 2020).
