Crown Lands has handed over the keys to a four-bedroom house to Cobar Local Aboriginal Land Council following a successful Aboriginal land claim.
Staff from the Aboriginal Land Claims Assessment Team attended Cobar on 2 March 2022 to officially hand over the property that included a carport and lock up detached garage set on a 1,012 square metre block.
The property will form part of the Cobar Local Aboriginal Land Council’s property portfolio and help to accommodate local residents.
Under the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983, Aboriginal land councils can lodge claims on Crown land, which are then assessed against statutory criteria in the Act by the Department of Planning and Environment.
If determined to be claimable Crown land the land is returned to the Local Aboriginal Land Council in freehold title.
