The Rockliff Liberal Government is doing what matters by providing assistance to students who need to live away from home to access education in 2024.
Minister for Education, Children and Youth, Roger Jaensch, said help was available for students who need to live away from their usual Tasmanian home in order to attend a registered government or non-government school.
“Some students who have to travel more than 40 km between their home and the closest school will need to move from regional and rural areas in order to access Years 11 and 12,” Minister Jaensch said.
“They may also find that their local school doesn’t offer a complete range of subjects that will allow them to complete their full course of chosen study.
“When this happens, our Government can provide eligible students with financial assistance through the Student Accommodation Allowance.
“The allowance is not means tested and there are special provisions for students from the Bass Strait islands.
“The Rockliff Liberal Government is providing cost of living relief to families preparing to send students back to school through programs like the Student Assistance Scheme, the School Lunch Program, the Spectacles Assistance Scheme, and with no-interest loans for low-income families through NILS.
“Our Government is sticking to our long-term plan and doing what matters for all Tasmanians.”
Students may also be eligible for the Federal Government’s Isolated Children Scheme.
