Police are once again urging all drivers to obey the road rules after a P2 driver was detected high-range speeding on the Bass Highway, West Ulverstone on Saturday.
Around 4pm an 19-year-old man from West Ulverstone, a P2 licence holder, was detected driving his car 33km/h over the speed limit with four young passengers on board.
The driver was issued an infringement notice that includes fines in excess of $600 and five demerit points.
Inspector Adam Spencer said, “The driving behaviour of this inexperienced motorist was incredibly dangerous – he was putting not only his life, but the lives of his passengers and other road users at risk of death or serious injury.”
“Speeding is one of the Fatal 5 causes of death and serious injury on our roads, and novice drivers have been found to be over-represented in serious and fatal.”
“Remember, high-range speeding, will not be tolerated. If you witness dangerous or hooning vehicles, please report to police to enable us to investigate promptly to remove unsafe drivers from our roads.”
