On the eve of Remembrance Day next Saturday (November 11), Logan City Council has freshened up the much-admired memorial murals on Anzac Ave at Hillcrest.
The artworks were installed in 2018 and have suffered some wear and tear including weather damage since.
Council’s mural artists have been hard at work in recent weeks repairing the nine murals that depict multiple war engagements.
The replacements have screen printed versions of the artwork to ensure they continue to be visible for generations to come.
The murals are installed on the retaining wall for the Mt Lindesay Highway from the intersection of Silvertop St and Anzac Ave up Anzac Ave to the Greenbank Services Club.
Division 7 Councillor Tim Frazer said he was proud to support the revival of these works from his divisional funding.
“The murals are very powerful and stand as a memorial to Australia’s wartime involvement from the Boer War to Afghanistan,” Cr Frazer said.
“They are an important part of our local community and remind us of all those who served and sacrificed in different wars and conflicts.”
Greenbank RSL Sub Branch President Stewart Rae thanked Council for its work on the mural.
“Given it’s proximity to our club, the mural is something which is cherished by our members and visitors and we are happy to see it refreshed as our community observes Remembrance Day,” Mr Rae said.
