Public holiday on ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Day of Mourning

A public holiday has been declared for a ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Day of Mourning across Australia on Thursday 22 September.

The day has been declared a one-off public holiday across all States and Territories to enable people to pay their respects over the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ President of the Pharmacy Guild of Australia, Professor Trent Twomey, said it was important for people to be able to take time to pay their respects to Queen Elizabeth, and also to reflect on her life.

“My wife and business partner, Georgina, and I will be closing all our pharmacies on Thursday as a mark of respect,” Professor Twomey said.

“The Queen has been a very big part of all our lives for a very long time.”

Professor Twomey said community pharmacies across Australia should make their own choices on whether to open on the day of mourning.

“Each pharmacy should make their own decision based on the views of their community,” he said.
