- Beazley Medals won by students from Perth Modern School and Harrisdale Senior High School
- Awards include 50 General Exhibitions and 38 Subject Exhibitions
Education Minister Tony Buti today announced the winners of the 2022 Beazley Medals.
At a special ceremony at Government House, hosted by the Honourable Chris Dawson APM, Governor of Western Australia, the two award winners were presented with their medals with their families, school representatives and the former Governor, Kim Beazley AC, attending the event.
Jessica Doan, a student from Perth Modern School, and Ashton Fowler, who attended Harrisdale Senior High School, were the State’s top two Year 12 students in 2022.
Jessica won the Beazley Medal: WA Certificate of Education (WACE) for the highest examination marks across five ATAR courses in Year 12.
Ashton has been awarded the Beazley Medal: Vocational Education and Training (VET) based on his outstanding Year 12 performance in a VET program.
Jessica has also won a General Exhibition, Subject Exhibition and Subject Certificate of Excellence: Chemistry, Subject Certificate of Excellence: Mathematics Methods, Subject Certificate of Excellence: Mathematics Specialist and a Certificate of Distinction.
Jessica received ‘A’ grades across all of her Year 11 and 12 courses and was Dux of her school. She is looking forward to studying Medicine next year.
Ashton also received a VET Exhibition and VET Certificate of Excellence: Construction Industries, achieved a Certificate IV in Business, a Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Career Start), a Certificate II in Sport and Recreation and a Certificate II in Sport Coaching.
Ashton completed his pre-apprenticeship while at school and has already secured an apprenticeship in Electrotechnology. He has plans to set up his own business in the future.
In total, 3647 awards were won in 2022, including 50 General Exhibitions and 38 Subject Exhibitions.
The schools with the highest number of General Exhibition winners were Perth Modern School (17) and Christ Church Grammar School (5).

“Jessica and Ashton have very bright futures ahead of them and I congratulate them on their outstanding achievement.

“I also want to acknowledge around 25,000 Western Australian Year 12 students who have now completed thirteen years of schooling and are now beginning the next chapter of their lives. I wish you all the very best of success as your head out into the world of employment, further training or university study.”
