A puppetry and visual theatre work that was commissioned for the 2021 Cairns Children’s Festival is set to tour regionally.
Council has endorsed $10,000 in funding through the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF), to support ARC Creative Ensemble (ACE) in taking the Beyond the Waves FNQ Regional Tour to Innisfail, Atherton Tablelands and Port Douglas.
Originally commissioned by Council as part of the 2021 Cairns Children’s Festival and presented by Dead Puppet Society and ARC Disability Services Inc, Beyond the Waves was written by the young people of ARC under the mentorship of playwright and creative facilitator Karen Jackson.
It tells the story of best friends Finn and Sheba who are swept up from a beach in Far North Queensland and into a world of unexpected magic.
The Beyond the Waves FNQ Regional Tour aims to increase the capacity of the ACE participants, their support workers, and the ARC organisation, while also examining the long-term viability of more extensive touring.
The ensemble will gain more options for employment and professional growth as a result of touring this work.
The Regional Arts Development Fund is delivered as a partnership between the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland and local Councils.
