A man has had his mate’s car impounded and will spend the morning behind bars following a police pursuit in Wodonga overnight.
Wodonga police responded to multiple calls from an interstate truck driver reporting an erratic vehicle on the Hume Freeway near Rutherglen about 1am.
A short time later police detected the Nissan Micra travelling at an alleged speed of 155km/h in an 80 zone on McKoy Street, Wodonga.
Police initiated a pursuit and the vehicle was intercepted a short time later.
The driver, a 31-year-old Wodonga, man was arrested by police and charged with reckless conduct, dangerous driving while being pursued by police, and other traffic related offences.
Police also impounded the Nissan, which belonged to the man’s friend, for a period of 30 days at a cost of $1115.
The Wodonga man was remanded in custody to appear at Wodonga Magistrates’ Court later today.
Police from Wodonga would like to remind all road users that this kind of behaviour will not be tolerated.
“It’s luck no one was seriously injured or killed as a result of this driver’s behaviour.”
