Pursuit at Sunshine Coast

Police have arrested three men who became entangled in thick lantana after allegedly attempting to flee a crashed stolen vehicle on the Sunshine Coast this morning.

Around 3am Beerwah police observed a black Mazda 6 allegedly stolen from Jacobs Well on May 26 travelling along Frizzo Road through Palmview.

Officers then followed the vehicle as it turned onto Pignata Road and became stuck at a dead end.

As a result the Mazda continued through a roadworks access gate and onto a road that is currently being constructed next to the Bruce Highway with police following in an authorised pursuit.

A tyre deflation device was successfully deployed by a quick-thinking officer who exited their police vehicle while the stolen car was stuck at the dead-end street and set up the sting as it travelled onto the Bruce Highway.

Police continued to follow the damaged Mazda at low speed onto Steve Irwin Way before the vehicle lost traction and continued on its rims along Railway Street, Landsborough.

The car then travelled towards Maleny, allegedly swerving across both lanes at low speed before eventually losing control west of Mountain View Road and crashing down an embankment.

The male driver and front passenger attempted to flee the wreckage, however were caught up in thorny lantana and quickly taken into custody. Another male passenger was arrested in the car after becoming stuck inside due to thick lantana covering the door.

No one was injured in the crash.

A subsequent search of the stolen vehicle allegedly uncovered drug utensils and a further examination will be carried out today.

A 26-year-old Beenleigh man, 35-year-old Redbank Plains man and 43-year-old Boondall man are currently assisting police with inquiries.
