We’re creating a more environmentally sustainable Bayside and helping to deliver our Climate Emergency response through strong new planning policy.
We are proposing to introduce a new Environmentally Sustainable Development (ESD) Local Policy into the Bayside Planning Scheme to ensure that new development in Bayside achieves best practice in environmental sustainability from the design stage through to construction and operation.
The policy is proposed to be introduced into the Bayside Planning Scheme as , and would apply to new developments of a certain size needing a planning permit, such as:
- Residential development of two or more houses on one lot.
- Commercial and industrial developments with a floor area of 100 square metres or more.
Depending on their type and size, affected developments will need to demonstrate best practice in energy performance, integrated water management, indoor environment quality, transport, waste management and urban ecology.
“Through this proposed Planning Scheme Amendment, Bayside joins over 20 other councils across Victoria that have implemented a local ESD Policy to protect our environment, secure today’s living standards and future-proof our communities against rising energy, water and waste disposal costs,” says Bayside Mayor Cr Alex del Porto.
Amendment C187bays is currently being exhibited and open for community feedback from 7 July until 5 August 2022.
