The Tasmanian Government is delivering on its ambitious housing agenda, taking key measures to make it easier for Tasmanians to own their own home.
Throughout 2024, the Tasmanian Government has delivered on key election commitments to put roofs over the heads of Tasmanians, such as stamping out stamp duty for first home buyers, expanding the successful My³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Shared Equity Program, and delivering a suite of buyer and development incentives.
Acting Minister for Housing, Planning, and Consumer Affairs, Guy Barnett, said making it easier to own a home has been a key focus for the Government throughout the year.
“We’ve delivered on our commitment to make the dream of homeownership a reality, taking key steps like slashing stamp duty for first home buyers on existing properties valued up to $750,000,” Minister Barnett said.
“Stamping out stamp duty for first home buyers is providing crucial cost-of-living relief for Tasmanians with savings of up to $28,900, reducing the financial burden of breaking into the property market.
“We’ve also expanded our successful My³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Shared Equity Program, allowing everyday Tasmanians to realise the dream of homeownership with as little as a 2 per cent deposit.
“The success of My³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ was truly realised earlier this year when we saw the 1000th Tasmanian homed under the program.”
The Tasmanian Government has been driving the delivery of its ambitious target of 10,000 social and affordable homes by 2032, with 3,978 delivered at the end of October.
“In the month of October alone, we delivered 85 new units of social housing – that’s nearly three new homes every single day,” Minister Barnett said.
“We’re also rolling out our $20 million maintenance fund to ensure our social housing stock are up to the standard Tasmanians both expect and deserve, allowing them to provide safety and security to some of our most vulnerable for decades to come.
“To further support industry with the construction of new homes across Tasmania, we’ve delivered a suite of incentives, such as the new Density Incentive Grant Scheme – with the guidelines for this program now announced.
“The Density Incentive Grant Scheme encourages developers to bring forward quality developments that increase housing variety and choice, meaning more opportunity for students, young couples, and retirees to choose the right home for them.
“Through our Government’s 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we are delivering more homes, faster, ensuring Tasmania remains the best place to live, work, and raise a family.”
