Queensland Resources Council has welcomed a new round of funding from the QCoal Foundation for a student to study at James Cook University (JCU).
QRC Deputy Chief Executive Judy Bertram said the $30,000 three-year scholarship, now in its fifth year, was targeted towards a high achieving Year 12 graduate based in a regional community.
“The QCoal Foundation is making a real difference with its ongoing support of regional communities by providing funding for Queensland students willing to study and work in the regions. QCoal partnered with JCU because a significant number of their graduates work in the regions,” Ms Bertram said.
“Previous recipients have been from the mining towns of Moranbah and Clermont.
“It’s great to see one of our member companies commit to the communities in which resource companies operate in and this vital funding will make big strides to ensuring everyone benefits from mining.
“Wider society wants to see our sector working with communities to achieve mutually beneficial relationships and I congratulate the QCoal Foundation for doing its part.
“Our education arm the Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy (QMEA) works with 74 schools throughout the State with support from the Queensland Government. The QMEA encourages students to study science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects after school or learn a trade.”
