Quantong Recreation Reserve to resurfaced

Quantong Recreation Reserve will have its oval fully resurfaced after Horsham Rural City Council successfully applied for $175,887 in funding from the Victorian Government and the AFL.

The project includes the replacement of the existing irrigation and drainage system while the current playing surface will be relevelled and replaced with a climate appropriate couch grass variety.

The oval is home to the Noradjuha Quantong Football Netball Club, which will contribute an additional $46,130, and Quantong Cricket Club.

HRCC has allocated $12,500 to the $235,000 project.

The oval is currently comprised of a mix of grass types, many of which are broad blade and not climate appropriate.

The new warm-season grass variety is expected to dramatically reduce watering needs at the oval. Inconsistencies with the hardness of oval will also be resolved, mitigating the risk of player injury.

Noradjuha Quantong’s senior and junior teams play in the Horsham and District Football League, with 110 total registered participants.

President Matt Treacy said the upgrade would allow the venue to potentially host finals and interleague matches.

“The Noradjuha-Quantong Football Netball Club together with the Quantong Recreation Reserve Committee is delighted with the outcome of the Victorian Government’s Country Football Netball Grant (Round 2) to upgrade the Quantong Recreation Reserve Oval,” he said.

“This project will provide a safe surface for all participants and allow the Noradjuha-Quantong Football Netball Club to attract and retain players from the junior level right through to senior.” Mr Treacy said.
