Queenslanders are being encouraged to get on their bikes for national Ride2Work Day tomorrow (October 16), with a free community breakfast being held in Brisbane.
Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the annual Ride2Work Day was a great opportunity to get more Queenslanders commuting on two wheels.
“The Palaszczuk Government is proud to support Ride2Work Day and the many events happening across the state,” Mr Bailey said.
“Riding a bike is a healthy, convenient and enjoyable way to get to work or school and getting people to give it a try is fundamental to growing bike riding.
“It’s why we’re investing $219 million to deliver the new bike-riding infrastructure across the state.
“We continue to invest millions of dollars delivering world-class facilities like Veloway (V1) and the North Brisbane Bikeway.
“We are also working with local governments to invest $14 million over four years to convert disused rail corridors into active rail trails for bike riding, walking and horse riding.
Nine councils have already taken advantage of more than $950,000 in funding to investigate the feasibility of rail trails in their communities.
To celebrate Ride2Work Day, Bicycle Queensland will also host a free breakfast in Brisbane.
Bicycle Queensland spokesperson Andrew Demack said:
“³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Ride2Work Day highlights what thousands of Queenslanders already know – that riding to work is a great way to start the day.
“But don’t keep it to yourself – this is the perfect opportunity to show a non-riding friend or work colleague just how much fun riding to work is by bringing them along to our free breakfast in the Brisbane CBD.”
