Carinity has been caring for Queensland seniors more than 70 years. That’s why October is a special time of the year for our staff and the seniors they support.
October is Queensland Seniors Month, celebrating older people around the state. During this month we also recognise the important and essential roles that seniors play in our communities.
The initiative aims to improve community attitudes towards older people and ageing; facilitate community participation and activity by older people; and enhance community connections and inter-generational relationships.
The theme of this year’s is ‘Social Connections’, connecting people of all ages, cultures, and abilities through inclusive events and activities.
Queensland Seniors Month is book-ended by the International Day of Older Persons, on October 1, and ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Grandparents Day, on October 31.
An annual day of observance established by the United Nations, the International Day of Older Persons has been held every year since 1991.
The theme of in 2021 is ‘Digital Equity for All Ages’, which highlights and affirms the need for access and meaningful participation in the digital world by older people.
Staying connected to friends, family and their wider community through technology is a key lifestyle choice for residents of Carinity’s .
Across , residents are also encouraged and supported to engage with technology, to enable greater connectivity between them and their family and friends. This has been particularly relevant during due to COVID-19.

“Each year, Carinity assists thousands of older Queenslanders living in residential aged care and retirement village communities, and seniors who receive support to live independently in their home,” said Brett Maunder, Carinity’s Marketing and Communications Manager.
