Twenty Queensland women who are excelling in their chosen fields have been announced as the state’s ‘Queensland Voices’ female leaders today.
Minister for Women Di Farmer congratulated the winners on their success and said the ‘Queensland Voices’ project aims to showcase exceptional women.
“These fantastic winners are talented, and often unheralded, women who are making a real difference in their communities,” Ms Farmer said.
“We’re acknowledging women who have broken the glass ceiling, are tackling gender inequality, and are advocating for a better Queensland.
“I’m so pleased recognise the truly amazing work these winners have done, and will continue to do in to the future.”
Ms Farmer said the Palaszczuk Government was proud to partner with social enterprise Femeconomy to fund ‘Queensland Voices’.
“Femeconomy is a terrific organisation that works to mobilise the ‘female economy; through collaboration and entrepreneurship,” she said.
“You can’t be what you can’t see, and that’s why highlighting the achievements of women is so important.
“This project supports the Queensland Women’s Strategy 2016-21 by making sure people know about the remarkable women who are helping to move Queensland forward.
“But gender equality is not just a women’s issue, and we know that when women and girls succeed, there are huge social and economic benefits for the whole community.
“Congratulations to the ‘Queensland Voices’ winners, and to Femeconomy for the wonderful work they do for women in our state.”
“Queensland is built by amazing Queenslanders. Every day women are moving Queensland forward,” Femeconomy Director Jade Collins said.
“We want to make sure their voices are heard, and their faces known. History is stacked with invisible women and Femeconomy has a role in challenging and changing that.”
The ‘Queensland Voices’ project will see a mini blog and meme series profiling 20 Queensland women across four categories – participation and leadership, economic security, safety, and health and wellbeing.
