QUT has launched its Spiritual Support and Inclusion Action Plan 2023–2025, to coincide with the relaunch of the university chaplaincy service.
Chaplaincy, formerly provided by external agencies, has now been positioned within Student Services.
The plan launch (pictured above), brought together QUT leaders, including Vice-Chancellor Professor Margaret Sheil, prominent leaders in the faith and religious community, and staff and student representatives from religious clubs.
At the launch, executive sponsor, QUT Vice President (Business Development) Professor Mark Harvey, said the plan sent a clear message about the university’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.
“The Action Plan serves as a pathway to not only create an environment of tolerance, but one where the spiritual beliefs, traditions, and cultures of all our staff and students – whether domestic or international – are welcomed and celebrated,” he said.
“The world is a myriad of religions and cultures. As the University for the Real World, we wish for our campuses and our communities to be reflective of this rich tapestry, and of the world that we endeavour it to be,” he said.
The Plan aims to build a culture that supports students and staff from diverse cultures, faith, spiritual beliefs, and traditions, including those with no religious affiliation, and can be viewed on the .
