Preparations are in full swing in anticipation for one of the biggest and best Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnivals ever seen.
The Golden Mile runs this Friday night at Spreyton and follows an exciting edition of the Newmarket Handicap held last Wednesday night at Mowbray.
Tasmania’s three most iconic thoroughbred racing events, the Devonport, Hobart and Launceston Cups are being held throughout January and February while a series of other race meetings, including the Longford Cup, on New Year’s Day will attract many thousands of racegoers over the Summer.
All three major Cups are this year sponsored by Ladbrokes, Tasmanian racing’s new headline sponsor.
In the lead up to the Hobart Cup, work is being finalised on the $12.5 million redevelopment of the Elwick thoroughbred track.
The final sod of Strathayr turf has been laid on the new 28-metre wide track with the first races on the new track to occur on 31 January, Tasmanian Derby Day.
The Hodgman majority Liberal Government remains a strong supporter of Tasmania’s racing industry, and is excited for what should be a memorable summer of racing.
