Raft of affordable regional airfares set to take flight

  • Discount fares now on sale between Perth and Exmouth, Kununurra and Broome
  • Affordable airfare program extended until 2022
  • Partnership between McGowan Government with Qantas and Virgin Australia
  • More than 40,000 discount airfares between Perth and Exmouth, Kununurra and Broome, are now on sale.

Set to inject nearly $10 million in visitor spend into regional Western Australia, the discount fares are an extension of the McGowan Government’s affordable airfare program, which aims to entice more people to regional WA and support the State’s tourism industry.

The program is delivered by the McGowan Government, through Tourism WA, in partnership with Qantas and Virgin Australia.

Through the initiative, Qantas will offer more than 17,000 discounted airfares between Perth and Exmouth from November 2021 to December 2022.

One-way tickets are priced from $159 (low season) and $169 (high season) on flights from Friday to Monday each week.

Qantas operates daily services year-round between Perth and Exmouth, with additional flights during peak periods, using Airbus A320 and Fokker 100 jets.

More than 12,000 discounted one-way Virgin Australia fares are available from $249 between Perth and Kununurra from March 2022 to September 2022.

Virgin Australia will operate four flights per week to Kununurra from March 28, 2022. This increases to five flights per week from May 8, 2022 on Boeing 737 aircraft.

There will also be more than 11,000 discounted airfares between Perth and Broome, priced from $199 one-way on flights from March 2022 to October 2022.

Virgin Australia operates daily services year-round between Perth and Broome, with additional flights during peak periods, using Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 aircrafts.

The Virgin Australia and Qantas special fares can be booked online or through travel agents.

The extension of the affordable airfare program builds on a number of successful initiatives to promote regional travel, including the biggest regional flights deal in WA history between Perth and Broome, Kununurra and Exmouth announced last October.

As stated by Tourism Minister David Templeman:

“Our ongoing partnership with Virgin Australia and Qantas, through the extension of the affordable airfare program, will play an important role in continuing to entice people to travel to these must-visit holiday destinations which is fantastic news for local businesses like accommodation providers, restaurants and cafes.

“These discount fares are a great incentive for people to book now and wander out yonder in 2022 with an unforgettable holiday in our State’s increasingly popular Kimberley and Exmouth regions.

“I encourage everyone to take advantage of the discounts available and tick off some of our State’s most desirable experiences from their holiday wish list next year – whether you walk along the white sands of Cable Beach, take in the Kununurra area’s spectacular waterfalls or swim with whale sharks in Exmouth, it’s sure to be a very special memory.”
