Major works are underway to remove the dangerous and congested level crossing at Clyde Road, Berwick by building a road underpass beneath the rail line.
Weighing in at a whopping 650 tonnes, this crawler crane had to be delivered in pieces to the Clyde Road, Berwick level crossing removal site.
The massive crane will be used to lift the new rail bridge into place on Monday 17 January. Be sure to check our social media channels next week for footage.
The rail bridge is made up of 12 steel bridge beams each weighing eight tonnes and measuring 25m long.
We’ll connect the beams to the existing rail, lay new track and install overhead wiring and signals, before trains start using the rail bridge in early February 2022.
