One of the Western Downs’ most stunning natural locations is being offered up to successful applicants as their home for the next two years in an exciting new role as the site’s full time live-in caretakers.
Following a major facelift as part of Western Downs Regional Council’s Covid-19 Recovery Package, Tara Lagoon Parklands is now primed and ready for visitors, locals, travellers and someone special to call it home. The role of Site Caretaker is open to a duo, couple, family or organisation who will live on-site at the parklands’ 4-bedroom Queenslander-style home and undertake visitor management, community engagement and grounds maintenance duties.
Spokesperson for Tourism, Events and Regional Promotion Councillor Kylie Bourne said people know that in the Western Downs, it’s the people that make it, so Council was seeking someone who would be a welcoming face to the parklands and the region and who would proudly advocate for the tourism opportunities of the region to visitors.
“Part of this exciting role will involve working with the local community to regularly activate the site with events to ensure that the popular natural asset can enhance our active vibrant community,” Cr Bourne said.
Spokesperson for Recreational Spaces and Cemeteries Councillor Carolyn Tillman said the Western Downs take pride in our natural assets as they were key to offering our quality lifestyle, and for this reason Council felt it’s important to attract someone who will care for our parklands like it was their very own back yard.
“Recent works at Tara Lagoon Parklands has delivered a fantastic space for locals and visitors with communal fire pits and picnic shelters to bring people together, powered camp sites and amenities block for visitors and travellers and beautifying landscaping and lakeside boardwalk” Cr Tillman said.
“The Western Downs is a great place to live and we’re sure that the right candidates will enjoy the beautiful surroundings, our unique and exciting events and great lifestyle.”
Applicants for this position are required to submit quotation and their plans for the role to Council’s Facilities Team by Monday 13 June 2022 AND attend an information session and site visit in Tara on Thursday 5 May or Thursday 2 June 2022.
