Police picked up two dozen speeding motorists yesterday afternoon who tried to use a shortcut to cut in front of other motorists at Globe Derby Park.
The Northern Road Policing Section performed static speed detection duties on a notorious “rat run” on the Port Wakefield Road northbound service road at Globe Derby Park between 4pm and 5.30pm on Thursday 18 April.
The service road, which is lined with houses and driveways, has a 50 km/h posted speed limit. These drivers then cause greater congestion on Port Wakefield Road when they try to merge into heavy traffic.
A 22-year-old Paralowie man was detected driving at 104 km/h. He was issued with a six month instant loss of licence and a $1096 fine.
A 49-year-old Gawler West woman was detected travelling at 107 km/h. She was also issued with a six month loss of licence and a $1096 fine.
A 39-year-old Clearview man was detected speeding at 72 km/h and was fined $831. He also tested positive to methamphetamine and directed not to drive for 24 hours. The sample was sent for forensic testing.
Twenty-one other drivers were issued with expiation notices for speeds ranging from 18 to 45 km/h over the 50 km/h limit.
Police will continue to have a highly visible presence on our roads this Easter long weekend and will be paying particular attention to speeding, drink and drug driving, seatbelts and inattentive driving.
