Read this summer to win awesome prizes

Discover a new world this summer and celebrate all creatures great, small, real or imaginary.

This year’s theme for the annual Australia-wide Summer Reading Club is Curious Creatures and kids are encouraged to read and discover amazing books to win awesome prizes.

In 2017, 69,963 children and young people across Australia participated in the Summer Reading Club, which continues to grow each year.

Community Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said she was very passionate about the annual State Library of Queensland Summer Reading Club program.

“It encourages a continued love of reading and ongoing multi-literacy skill development among children and young people during the summer holidays,” Cr McKay said.

“My grandchildren love this program.

“I know they’ll be reading as many books as possible to be in the running to win some great prize packs.”

Children just need to read five items of their choice – this includes books, magazines, comics and eBooks – over the summer holidays.

They then complete the reading log and hand it in to their local Sunshine Coast library by 5pm Thursday, January 31.

There are four prize packs up for grabs:

• Book prize pack – a voucher to a local bookstore and a bundle of awesome books.

• Big Toy prize pack – a toy store voucher to create your own Toy Story.

• LEGO® prize pack – a stack of bricks and things to help you become a Master Builder.

• Wild animal encounter prize pack – get up close and personal with a curious marine creature.

This year there are bonus prizes for the most books read throughout summer. Get reading, complete those logs and the bonus prize could be yours.

• Voracious Reader – $25 bookstore voucher

• Omnivorous Reader – $15 bookstore voucher

• Rapacious Reader – $10 bookstore voucher
