Public sector workers are again stepping off the job this week to protest the Liberal Government’s handling of the wage and conditions negotiations conducted across much of this year.
Average real wages are now lower than when the Liberals took office in March 2014.
This extraordinary reality is a result of poor management and a failure by the Government to tackle the cost of living crisis, as well as put forward an offer that will address the issues raised by workers.
Jeremy Rockliff has failed to listen to the concerns of Tasmanian teachers, health workers, and public sector workers, and provide a real and viable solution.
The strike action taking place on Wednesday rests squarely on the Premier’s shoulders, as each offer put forward has fallen well short of tackling declining retention rates, unmanageable workloads, and the fact wages are falling further and further behind inflation.
This strike action is as much about working conditions as it is wages, yet this Government does not seem to understand that.
Jeremy Rockliff needs to come to the table and deliver a genuine offer that is acceptable for workers in the face of this cost of living crisis.
