The collaborative effort between Snowy Monaro Regional Council and Pets Domain Cooma in organising a pound animal adoption day on Saturday 19 August was a resounding success, with most animals finding new homes following the event.
Early in the day, a queue formed as animal lovers from across the region gathered to meet the friendly crew of furry hopefuls. The atmosphere was enthusiastic and optimistic, with attendees excited at the prospect of meeting their new best friend.
The event was a wonderful success, with five out of the nine featured animals finding new homes on the day. An additional three animals are in the process of being matched with potential adopters in the coming week.
Pets Domain Cooma was awash with smiling faces and wagging tails as Council’s pound dogs showed off their new skills, fresh from an innovative training program delivered in collaboration with inmates and staff at Cooma Correctional Centre.
Media support played a vital role in enhancing event visibility, with local radio stations 2XL and ABC South East contributing to its reach. Their involvement expanded event awareness and resulted in greater participation, and Council is grateful for their support.
The event also facilitated meaningful conversations between Council’s rangers and attendees. Discussions about local animal wellbeing programs gave attendees insight into the processes associated with rehoming, and rescue placements. Better understanding across the community will lead to better outcomes for our region’s companion animals.
The success of our pound animal adoption day demonstrates the Snowy Monaro’s shared commitment to animal welfare.
Council is excited to build on this success with future initiatives aimed at fostering connections between shelter animals and potential adopters.
