University researchers from Australia and Germany will team up to tackle major global challenges in the latest round of the Australia-Germany Joint Research Cooperation Scheme.
Australian universities will contribute $1 million to enable early career researchers from 19 universities to partner with their German counterparts on 47 projects spanning climate change, water security health and the environment. Additional funding will be provided by the German Academic Exchange Service.
Universities Australia Chief Executive Catriona Jackson said the partnership with the German Academic Exchange Service has fostered high-quality research collaboration and supported the exchanges of researchers since 2015.
“We congratulate the successful Australian and German universities that will partner to drive new innovation and ideas for the benefit of our respective countries, and indeed the entire world,” Ms Jackson said.
“The DAAD Scheme is a terrific program which opens the door for Australian researchers and their German peers to spend time in each other’s countries to tackle real challenges.
“Successful projects supported under this round will see researchers collaborating on big issues like climate change and adaptation, water security, health and environment.
“The power of international research collaborations cannot be understated, which is why we’re extremely pleased to continue forging ties with Germany – one of the world’s most advanced economies.”
