Reckless Driving Incidents – Caversham

Road Policing Investigators have charged two men in relation to hooning incidents that occurred in Caversham on Saturday, 1 June 2024.

It will be alleged, about 8:10am, the two accused men – aged 20 and 23 – were travelling at excessive speeds while riding motorcycles on Reid Highway. The speed limit in this area is 90km/h.

The 20-year-old man, riding a green Kawasaki motorcycle, was allegedly captured by a safety camera travelling 127km/h over the speed limit.

The 23-year-old man, riding a black and red CFMOTO motorcycle, was allegedly captured by a safety camera traveling 69km/h over the speed limit.

Following thorough and quick investigative actions from Road Policing Investigators, the two men were summonsed on Tuesday, 4 June 2024. A surrender notice was issued for the Kawasaki motorcycle, and the CFMOTO motorcycle has been impounded.

A 20-year-old man from Connolly has been charged with ‘Reckless Driving Speed of 155km/h or more’ and ‘No Authority to Drive’.

A 23-year-old man from Midland has been charged with ‘Reckless Driving Speed of 155km/h or more’.

Both males are due to appear before the Midland Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 17 July 2024.

36% of fatal crashes on Western Australian roads this year have involved a motorcycle, despite motorcycles representing just 4% of vehicles on the road.

Road Policing Commander Mike Bell says;

“These stats are alarming, motorcycle riders are particularly vulnerable on our roads and choices, like significantly exceeding the speed limit, increases the risk to their safety and safety of others”

“Speeding is one of the most common factors associated with fatal and serious crashes. It’s astounding that people are willing to take these risks”

“The risk of speeding in order to arrive early at your destination is not worth the probability of incurring a speeding infringement, or in the worst-case scenario, costing your life or the life of another”
