Record number to celebrate WA Bike Month in 2023

  • Highest number of WA Bike Month grants awarded in the program’s history
  • WA Bike Month encourages people of all ages and abilities to give bike riding a go
  • Celebration month will allow community to discover the fun and benefits of riding, as well as use the many riding and walking facilities across the State

This year’s WA Bike Month is set to be the biggest yet with a record $75,000 in grant funding being awarded.

Celebrated annually in October, this State Government initiative aims to promote and encourage people of all ages and abilities to ride bikes for transport, fun and a healthier lifestyle.

This year’s grants program is being delivered in partnership with RAC, which is contributing $25,000.

Seventy-six local governments, organisations, schools and community groups will share in major, local and minor grants to host bike riding activities across the State.

Funded events include ride to school or work breakfasts, trail rides, scavenger hunts and safety and skill building sessions, and are taking place in all corners of WA, from the East Kimberley to the South West.

A Bike Month Blast Off event will kick-start celebrations taking place on 1 October 2023. Two major events will also be held in the Cities of Albany and Wanneroo.

WA Bike Month is an initiative of the State Government, co-funded by the Department of Transport and RAC, and administered by WestCycle.

For more information, visit or follow on Facebook. Grant applicants who were unsuccessful can still register their unfunded event.

As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:

“Our Government will be investing more than $300 million over the next four years to significantly expand the State’s cycling network.

“Supporting grass root events is an important way we can encourage more people to get out and use the fantastic new infrastructure our Government is delivering.

“This year we have made record funding available and with a record number of organisations being awarded grants, it is clear more and more people in our community want to get out on two wheels.”
