City of Darwin is thrilled to report that a record crowd attended this year’s ‘A Very Darwin Christmas Pageant’ on Saturday 16 November 2024, held in conjunction with Activate Darwin.
The annual Christmas Pageant once again delighted the community, with over 14,000 people gathering to watch colourful floats dancing, singing and walking their way through the Darwin City Centre.
Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis thanked everyone for being involved.
“This year marks an impressive 11 per cent increase in attendance compared to 2023, highlighting the growing popularity of this much-loved festive activity,” Mr Vatskalis said.
“The Pageant was particularly special for families, with children making up 20 per cent of the total attendees.
“Among the many viewing spots, Bennett Street emerged as the crowd favourite, with the lively atmosphere along this stretch capturing the Christmas spirit.
“It was also great to see many families stay for the lighting of the Christmas tree, and I thank Acting Lord Mayor, Councillor Sam Weston, for filling in for me while I was out of action.
“I would like to personally thank attendees, sponsors, volunteers and performers who made this year’s Pageant a resounding success,” he said.
Chief Minister of the Northern Territory, Lia Finocchiaro, thanked Territorians for turning up and participating in the event.
“It was great to see such enthusiastic community spirit at the Christmas Pageant.
“Events like these are an important part of our unique lifestyle, and I know the Territory-themed floats were a real hit for everyone watching and cheering from the sidelines.”
City of Darwin’ Christmas program continues until Christmas Day, with an “Elf on the Shelf” competition running in each of the libraries until 21 December 2024 and Santa’s Village taking place in Casuarina Library (5 – 7 December) and the Galleria (9 – 21 December).
Santa’s Fun on Wheels will run in the Chan Ward on Saturday 14 December 2024 on the Nightcliff foreshore and at Nightcliff pool, with free pool entry for all attendees.
