Bass Coast Shire Council awarded the tenders for four major recreation projects at last Wednesday’s Council Meeting, totalling over $2.5 million.
The projects include the redevelopment of the Inverloch Netball Courts, to provide two compliant courts and lighting and the construction of a new netball change pavilion.
The Wonthaggi Tennis Courts and Multi-Purpose Training Project includes the redevelopment of five new synthetic tennis courts, including lighting and fencing and a fully enclosed five cricket wicket and multi-purpose synthetic training facility, which will also include lighting.
The Inverloch Tennis Club will also be upgraded with the redevelopment of four hard courts, lighting and fencing.
Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Brett Tessari, said it was exciting to see these important community projects progressing.
“Work on both the Inverloch projects will start before the end of the month, while the tennis court redevelopments at Inverloch and Wonthaggi will get underway in early November,” Cr Tessari said.
“These projects will provide improved facilities for our whole community and highlights Council’s commitment to provide first class recreation opportunities across the Shire.”
The Inverloch Netball Court redevelopment will see the existing asphalt courts replaced with two compliant netball courts with an acrylic finish and will include lighting, player’s shelters, tiered seating, fencing, drainage and other works.
These works will be carried out at the same time as the construction of the new netball change pavilion, which will be located on the same site.
The new pavilion will include change rooms, multipurpose space, meeting room, medical room and accessible change facilities.
The overall cost for both projects is $940,000, including $400,000 from Council’s Resort and Recreation Reserve for Inverloch, $40,000 from the Inverloch Football Netball Club and $500,000 from Sport and Recreation Victoria’s Female Friendly Facilities Program
The $656,000 redevelopment of the Inverloch Tennis Club courts and the $1.23 million redevelopment of the Wonthaggi Tennis Court and Multi-Purpose Training Project have been funded as part of Council’s 2018/19 Capital Works Program, which includes $180,000 funding from Sport and Recreation Victoria’s Minor Facilities Program for the Multi-Purpose Training Project.
